09:15am - 10:15am  Db2 Security Best Practices II
Dave Beulke, Gold Consultant and IBM Information Champion

Implementing the best security techniques and strongest configuration is mandatory these days for safe guarding your data. This presentation discusses the latest DB2 security methods, procedures and techniques for fortifying DB2 systems, databases and applications.  Security for your software configurations, application connections and best practices for applications are required for safe guarding your data against internal and external hacking threats.

This presentation details DB2 z/OS and DB2 LUW security strategies such as the impacts of encryption, database design security techniques and how best implement a multi-layered DB2 security data perimeter.  You will leave this presentation with the latest up-to-date DB2 security techniques and procedures that will help you guard against the many hacker treats and applications issues that can inadvertently expose your data.

10:15am - 10:30am  Break

10:30am -  11:30am  Modern Systems to the Rescue

12:30pm -  01:30pm  Revival of the SQL Tuner
Sheryl Larsen, BMC, Past & Future IBM Information Champion

The pool of DBAs with SME knowledge of SQL tuning has shrunk dramatically while the number of SQL statements needing attention has grown and will continue to grow. DB2 performance tooling can help identify what needs to be tuned.  But what do you do then?  This presentation will help fill the skills gap by reviving the role of an SQL Tuner.  Specifically, you will learn what access paths are good for what types of queries and how to change the DB2 optimizers mind.

Objective 1:  Witness the access path choices with graphic animations and understand which paths are good/bad for certain queries
Objective 2:  Learn how to read a visual EXPLAIN
Objective 3:  Learn how to use traditional query tuning techniques
Objective 4:  Learn how to experiment with more extreme tuning techniques
Objective 5:  Take a 5-minute test for a chance to qualify for an official SQL Tuner certificate

01:30pm - 01:45pm  Break

01:45pm - 02:45pm  Calculating the Real Amount of zIIP Offload
Bernie O’Connor, Anixter, Director of Information and Technology

This would involve actual calculations, and how to prove it.
