and future releases of DB2 for z/OS. There will also be a preview of DB2 for z/OS V Next (Code Name “Sequoia” ) and a presentation
of a local (Sacramento) user’ experience converting from IDMS to DB2 for z/OS.
AGENDA
9:00am Registration and Coffee
9:30 am “Demystifying DB2 Online Migrations” Jay Yothers
The DB2 migration process operates in such a way as to not interfere in any significant way with the normal running of applications.
Some customers have perfected online migrations in their environment while others have performed an online migration without
realizing that the migration was online. Still others insist that the only way to ensure a successful migration is to take a full application
outage. We will discuss exactly what the migration process does. Along the way we'll talk about the factors that affect a successful
migration online and how to go about mitigating any interference with an online migration.
10:45 pm “Converting from IDMS to DB2 for z/OS: A Customer Experience” Glenn McGeoch
The State of California Employment Development Department (EDD) recently converted their Single Client Database (SCDB) and
associated applications from IDMS to DB2 for z/OS. EDD used an IBM Business Partner and a tool to automate the process. IBM
provided assistance with database design and application tuning. This session will provide an overview of the conversion process and
describe the challenges faced and the design changes incorporated to improve DB2 performance.
